Read It: It Sucked and then I Cried

My friend Jen let me borrow this book and I was so excited to get started. I had heard a lot about the author's blog through the grapevine and had happened upon it a time or two. She seemed hilarious, so why wouldn't the book be the same?

Well, the book is hilarious... at times. I will say, though, the book made me extremely anxious! Like, heartbeatingfastandnowIhavetoputthebookdown anxious. It is centered around the birth of her daughter, Leta, and the depression that followed. She is completely honest about how hard she found motherhood, which in a way, was extremely refreshing to read. But I seriously found myself swearing off children because I was destined to become a nervous wreck and stay awake at night to make sure they were still breathing. (There is a 95% chance of that really happening in my future.) I wasn't sure if I was going to make it through the end of the book. And that's when I read this -

"The only problem I had with the TV being permanently tuned to the Olympics was the Bob Costas factor. Please, Bob Costas, JUST SHUT UP."
- Heather Armstrong

There is nothing I find more ridiculous than Bob Costas' remarks during any kind of sporting event, especially the Olympics. It was at this moment that I knew I would finish the book, and by God, I would love every second of it.

Overall, I did enjoy it. Some parts were hard to read and truthfully, very sad. But by the end, I was rooting for her. I wanted her to be mother of the year! And, c'mon, what is better than an underdog?

...

It's been a weird couple of days, and I don't know if this post stems from last night's Glee episode (um, whoa) or what, but I just seem to be in a funk.

I wouldn't normally use this as a way to solicit thoughts or prayers, but it's all I can think to say write.

A friend of mine is going through something unimaginable - her dad has been fighting cancer for the last eleven months and things seem to have taken a turn for the worst.

A co-worker of mine is dealing with something just as awful - her young son was admitted to Children's Hospital yesterday afternoon.

Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for the life I have, but I can't help but think that life is just a little unfair right now.

So here's what I'm asking: if you stumble upon this page today, take a second to remind yourself just how good you have it, and send some positive vibes to my friends who need them.

Love

I am a firm believer in celebrating love every day, but come February 14th, there is no way I'm turning down dark chocolate & Prosecco. (Yes, my glass is the empty one.)

Vegas by Instagram.

We came, we drank, we gambled... and then we drank some more.

And then I had to get this - just to get me through the morning.

I love the Vegas.

Super Bowl Pinwheels

Sure, this may be a bit late, but I stumbled across this recipe AGAIN on one of my favorite websites - foodgawker. Warning: do NOT look at this website right before a meal. It will make whatever you are having seem extremely depressing. (I should begin to practice what I preach...)

SPINACH GRUYERE PINWHEELS

1 package (10oz) frozen spinach, thawed
1/2 C shredded Gruyere cheese (I used more - sue me.)
1/4 C grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/8 tsp garlic powder
1 egg
1 Tbsp water
1 sheet puff pastry, thawed (I used Pepperidge Farm.)

*Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper, or Silpat. (I love mine!)
*Wrap the spinach in a paper towel and squeeze out as much excess water as possible.
*Combine spinach, cheeses, salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a medium bowl.
*In a small bowl, beat the egg and water together.
*With a rolling pin, form the puff pastry into a (roughly) 12x12-inch square. Lightly brush with the egg wash and spread the spinach/cheese mixture in an even layer.
*Roll the puff pastry and pinch at the seam to seal. Cut the roll into about 20 slices and brush the tops with egg wash.
*Bake for 15 minutes, or until the pinwheels are golden brown.

26 is Here

Happy birthday to this little lady! Don't know if you know, but she's kind of a big deal. And I kind of like her. Ok, you caught me. I love her.

We celebrated her newest year last night at Cactus (I swear we eat other things beside Mexican food) and Jillian's. It was the perfect way to spend the evening: good friends, great food, and lots of laughs.

Calm Down, Seattle.

Unless you plan to be like this until October, you better slow your roll.
People are going to start getting their hopes up.

My Day in Photos

Thank you.

Creatures of Habit

I have a wonderful friend who I see a couple of times a month. We go to the same place for dinner, always order the same thing, and talk straight through. Our husbands make fun of us for never switching it up, but a wise man (yes, I seriously googled the phrase and found who originated it) once said:

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

These dinners are the highlight of my month - it's an amazing time for us to catch each other up on work, vacations and books we've read recently. I hope all of you have a friend that you can be a creature of habit with - I wouldn't want it to be any other way!
